During Group Session this year, I was able to take part in the wonderful Black Rainbows project, led by acclaimed singer songwriter Corinne Bailey Rae.
Myself, along with a group of my peers, were given songs from her latest album to orchestrate for a concert at the Roundhouse in Camden with Bailey Rae herself, and the Guildhall Session Orchestra.
I was tasked with creating a coda for the song Earthlings. A wonderful song, that explores the idea of an alian looking down on Earth, confused as to why humanity can't just get on. Corinne asked me to write a piece that had two sections, the first, building up to a fun party based on the harmony of the song. And the second, a contemplative, ambiguous look, like an astronaut suspended in space.
Below is a phone recording made of my piece, which was played twice, once during the concert as normal, and the second as the finale to the whole concert, a true honour.
